June’s Community Call: Annual Summer Social

Our second annual summer social will take place during our June 2021 community call: Wednesday, 16 June at 3pm UTC / 11am EDT. This year, we’re organizing a virtual “open house,” where you can choose your own adventure. This might include finding out more about various CSCCE activities including special interest groups, focus groups and trainings, chatting with your fellow STEM community managers, and playing a game of “Lingo Bingo.” All are welcome, so read on to find out more!

This year’s summer social will involve a series of breakout sessions, giving all participants the opportunity to choose three activities over the course of our 90 minute social. Sessions to expect at the social:

CSCCE Q&A Sessions

We will have three Q&A sessions with Director Lou Woodley. In these sessions, which are intended to bring you up to speed on some of the programming available this summer, she’ll be sharing how to get involved in CSCCE focus groups as well as a new working group focused on internal advocacy for community managers. She’ll also be teaming up with our Lead Trainer, Camille Santistevan, to answer any questions you might have about our online modular trainings – including making requests for future trainings.

Special Interest Group “Connect and Discuss” Sessions

CSCCE is home to three member-led special interest groups (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Data Science; and Open Research), the co-chairs of which will all be hosting breakout rooms during the social. Whether you’re active in these groups or just curious about their programming, you are welcome to join a session to connect and discuss.

Lingo Bingo

Want to put your community management vocabulary knowledge to the test? Or just curious what Lingo Bingo is all about? Camille will be hosting two rounds of this CSCCE-developed game, with a chance to win some swag!

Roundtable Chats

CSCCE’s Communications Director Katie Pratt will host Roundtable chats throughout the social for anyone to share news, updates, challenges, and anecdotes. This is a great place to come if you’re interested in networking with other members of the CSCCE community of practice, or if you just need to cool off after a competitive round of Lingo Bingo!
