We’re delighted to announce that we are now accepting applications for the 2019 cohort of AAAS Community Engagement Fellows, generously supported by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. The fellowship is a year-long professional development opportunity for existing scientific community professionals working in research collaborations, scientific societies, and other organizations supporting scientist-to-scientist or “in-reach” activities.

Why join the CEFP 2019 cohort?

Starting in January 2019, selected Fellows will participate in three in-person trainings at AAAS, plus various remote activities during the fellowship year. They will learn community engagement models and best practices and work with the other Fellows in peer-to-peer activities designed to advance their own expertise as network leaders, and to contribute to the emerging field of scientific community engagement.

The 2017 AAAS Community Engagement Fellows completed or made progress on 96% of their community goals, making this program a must for anyone looking to develop their community strategy, leadership skills and day-to-day tactics.

More details about the program structure, eligibility requirements, and how to apply can be found on our website.

Please note that we will be reviewing applications on a rolling basis ahead of the final submission deadline of Sunday 18th November 2018 and early submissions are encouraged.

With the announcement of recruitment of the second cohort of AAAS Community Engagement Fellows, we are now consolidating our research and training activities in scientific community engagement into the brand new AAAS Center for Scientific Collaboration and Community Engagement.

The Center’s three focus areas are:

  1. The AAAS Community Engagement Fellows Program (CEFP)– our year-long flagship scientific community engagement training
  2. On demand trainings and other professional development support for scientific community managers – including a new monthly CSCCE newsletter, webinar series, and events for CEFP alumni.
  3. Primary research into the role of the community engagement manager in building and nurturing scientific communities – including a new Visiting Scholars Program for 2019.

If you have questions about the Center’s activities,  including to discuss the trainings that we provide, please email communityengagement@aaas.org.
