Project management is a skill that many scientists need as their careers develop, and they find themselves taking on leadership roles such as coordinating collaborative grants, launching new projects, or running a lab. But access to project management training that sets them up for success? That’s not always easy to find…

…Enter CSCCE’s Project Management for Scientists Bootcamp! Our six-session course plus recommended two-hour introductory Mini-workshop equips participants with a reusable framework to plan out any scientific project – and practical support with implementing the ideas right away.

As always at CSCCE, we focus on the common human challenges that can derail collaborative work – including managing key relationships, articulating project benefits, and navigating a group through change together. Plus, we use our decades of experience to create case study examples of STEM projects that bring the framework alive.

An introduction to Project Management for Scientists (PMI)

This two hour introductory session provides an overview of the concepts and approaches scientists can use in managing their collaborative projects. It introduces and defines the accompanying vocabulary needed to discuss project management, including the three different types of project and the skillsets of project managers.

Project Management for Scientists Bootcamp (PMB)

This six-session online bootcamp intensive offers a grounding in the basics of project management, tailored to apply to specific STEM contexts and with a strong emphasis on the interpersonal considerations that support successful collaborative work.

Register for the upcoming PMI and PMB sessions

PMI will take place on Wednesday, 5 November at 11am EST / 4pm UTC, and PMB will run on Tuesdays and Fridays beginning Tuesday, 18 November until Friday, 12 December 2025 (we’ll pause for the week of the US Thanksgiving holiday). You can sign up for both trainings by purchasing a “bundle” ticket on Eventbrite.

The CSCCE Community Manager Certification Program

PMI/PMB are elective training options in our Community Manager Certification Program, which includes two required multi-week courses (Content Design and Creating Community Playbooks) and a third training of your choice, six Mini-workshops, access to unlimited Quarterly Skills Share sessions, and increased instructor support.

Best for: Full-time community managers or related roles.
