Self-determination theory

A motivational theory proposing that individuals develop greater intrinsic interest and engagement in activities when their environment supports feelings of competence and autonomy. According to this theory, people are naturally motivated to pursue tasks that allow them to feel skilled and capable, while also experiencing a sense of choice and self-direction.
