DESCRIPTION:17-18.30 GMT / 12 – 13.30 EDT \nZoom link to join: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82901478484?pwd=TnhKNGRNai9qTEFoeERNaHUvRGc5dz09 \nThe Center for Scientific Collaboration and Community Engagement’s Diversity\, Equity\, & Inclusion special interest group has launched a series of interactive seminars on issues facing community managers who want to build equitable and diverse cultures in their communities and networks.\nThe second session will take place on 27 April where we will be considering Equity\, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and facilitation. We will start the session with a panel discussion (please submit any questions here) followed by a breakout session to discuss the topics in more depth. Some of the issues we will be covering include: \n-Clear understanding of your role as a facilitator;\n-Vocabulary to address issues of equity and inclusion;\n-Skills\, strategies\, and practice on how to create an inclusive environment;\n-Strategies to assess and de-escalate tensions around issues of difference. \nCome ready to learn from our speakers\, and to share some of your own thoughts on the role of community managers as facilitators in creating a scientific research ecosystem that is equitable and co-created.\nConfirmed speakers: \nArne Bakker https://www.linkedin.com/in/arnebakker/  \nArne Bakker is the Director of Meetings and Community for Science at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. At CZI\, Arne leads their efforts to bring scientists together through meetings\, workshops and other convenings\, with the goal of creating and supporting collaborative scientific communities. Throughout his career\, Arne has always been actively bringing scientists together: he ran a Science Festival in Amsterdam\, co-organized PhD career conferences at UC Berkeley and Stanford\, and hosted several events at the Bay Area Science Festival. \nYanina Bellini Saibene https://yabellini.netlify.app  \nYanina is a researcher at INTA (National Institute of Agricultural Technology). She works in an Experimental Agricultural Station\, with the developments and solutions related to the productive reality of the province of La Pampa\, where she lives with her husband and two children. She is co-founder of MetaDocencia\, an open\, free\, volunteer-lead\, not-for-profit\, educational organization and an active member of the R Community. Yanina seeks to make science as reproducible and open as possible using open computing tools. \nAngie Bamgbose https://www.linkedin.com/in/angie-bamgbose-07185265/?originalSubdomain=uk \nAngie is a child protection and safeguarding consultant\, a coach and a facilitator. Since 2000 she has worked in the humanitarian and development sector in child protection programming\, safeguarding as well as coaching leaders and child protection practitioners across the globe. She facilitates action learning sets working with groups to reflect and act on issues of race\, power and privilege. Finally\, but importantly\, she identifies as a Black woman with intersecting identities of sexuality\, disability\, nationality\, education and class through which she navigates a complex set of power and privileges.  \nVanessa Boon https://www.linkedin.com/in/vanessaboon/?originalSubdomain=uk  \nLead Difference-Maker & Owner\, Energise – people development & diversity\, with twenty years’ experience in dismantling structural oppression. Liberation work with marginalised groups includes social justice activism\, action-planning for the NUS (National Union of Students) & Derbyshire LGBT+\, Associate Career Development Facilitator with WISE (Women into Science & Engineering) UK\, founder member of Black Community Matters\, and amplifying diverse voices as Chair of Derby Sound Community Radio\, at the charity Disability Direct.   \nJanice McNamara http://janicemcnamara.com/ (moderator) \nJanice is passionate about facilitation with the challenges and insights the role can bring. She enjoys working with others to navigate a path where voices are shared and heard. She has worked in a variety of different countries and situations including with communities Namibia just after independence\, NGO’s in Beijing\, Islamabad and Manchester\, factory workers in the UK\, fisheries across Europe\, commonwealth leaders in Delhi and training facilitation skills  to VSO volunteers recruited in UK\, Canada\, Netherlands and Pakistan to help prepare them for international placements. \nThis event follows the CSCCE’s Community Participation Guidelines and will take place on Zoom. Recordings of the speakers will be available after the event on YouTube and a written summary will be posted to the CSCCE blog. \nCo-organized by Kate Baker and Emily Lescak
